Motivation

Updates the Sphinx ScyllaDB theme to version 1.10.

Uses Renovate to update docs Python dependencies and their lockfile, replacing the custom weekly update workflow. Related to sphinx-scylladb-theme#1788.

Changelog: sphinx-theme.scylladb.com/master/upgrade/CHANGELOG.html

Upgrade guide: sphinx-theme.scylladb.com/master/upgrade/1-9-to-1-10.html

How to test

From the docs directory, run make preview. Confirm the build completes without errors and the documentation renders correctly at http://localhost:5500.

1. Failed docs builds appear green 🔗 Cross-repo conflict ⭐ New
Description
Replacing the standalone make -C docs test command with a pipeline to tee without pipefail

The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The docs build pipes `make` through `tee` without `pipefail`, so the theme's reporting action can receive a successful outcome after a failed build.

## Fix Focus Areas
- .github/workflows/docs-pr.yml[50-61]

## Recommended Fix
Enable `set -o pipefail` before the pipeline, or otherwise propagate `make`'s exit status, so the build step fails and the reporting action can report it.

Resolved findings
1. Failed docs checks go unreported ✗ Dismissed
Description
The new Docs / Report PR workflow calls the theme’s docs-report action, but its
reportPullRequest handler returns unless the triggering workflow path is
.github/workflows/docs-pr.yaml. This repository’s build workflow is
.github/workflows/docs-pr.yml, so completed PR builds never reach the action’s comment creation or
update logic.

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
The theme’s shared reporting action accepts PR builds only from `.github/workflows/docs-pr.yaml`, while this repository uses `.github/workflows/docs-pr.yml`. As a result, the new report workflow cannot post diagnostics to PRs.

## Fix Focus Areas
- .github/workflows/docs-pr-report.yml[19-23]
- .github/workflows/docs-pr.yml[1-5]
- .github/workflows/docs-pr.yml[19-22]

## Recommended Fix
Rename the build workflow to `.github/workflows/docs-pr.yaml` and update workflow path filters that refer to its filename. Alternatively, coordinate a change to the theme repository’s reporting action to accept `.yml`, then pin this workflow to a revision containing that change.

2. Dependency update PRs miss docs checks ⊘ Outdated
Description
gh pr create uses github.token, whose resulting pull-request event does not start another GitHub

therefore do not run for that PR, although the updater tested the lockfile before opening it.
Code

Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
Pull requests created with `github.token` do not trigger the repository's pull-request docs workflow, leaving dependency-update PRs without its checks.

## Fix Focus Areas
- .github/workflows/docs-dependencies.yml[141-190]
- .github/workflows/docs-pr.yml[8-27]

## Recommended Fix
Use an authorized token that triggers pull-request workflows when creating the PR, or explicitly dispatch equivalent PR validation after creating it. Ensure the automated PR receives the normal docs build check.

Close-then-create can leave no open PR.

If gh pr create fails after gh pr close, no update PR remains open until the next run. A transient API error is enough to cause this. The branch was already force-pushed, so the open PR already tracks the new commit. Update the open PR in place when one exists. Create a PR only when none exists.

gh pr create uses github.token, whose resulting pull-request event does not start another GitHub
Actions workflow. When the updater opens a PR, the repository’s docs build and reporting workflows
therefore do not run for that PR, although the updater tested the lockfile before opening it.

This no longer applies, GitHub changed this on June 11, 2026: https://github.blog/changelog/2026-06-11-bot-created-pull-requests-can-run-workflows-if-approved/

PRs created with GITHUB_TOKEN can run workflows after a maintainer selects Approve workflows to run.

Move lock-file maintenance to the top level.

lockFileMaintenance is a per-package-file setting in Renovate, not a per-dependency one. Inside a packageRules entry, it can be ignored, so the docs group may not get the intended lock-file refresh. Set it at the top level of renovate.json, and remove it from the docs rule:

This setting applies to every package file in the repository. Restrict it if other lock files should not refresh.
