SteamOS 3.8.13 w/ Valve Dock on current firmware, earlier versions affected as well.
I have observed that with VRR on in gaming mode, most of the time it cannot "lock" on and display a steady picture on the monitor, it will flash the whole screen black if one moves the mouse. In desktop mode, this does not happen. Returning to gaming mode from desktop mode will not have the monitor flashing, but one can see subtle brightness flickering in the background of black levels in e.g. the settings without moving the mouse.
Update: The flashing of VRR in gaming mode can also be stopped by using the QAM to toggle VRR off, then back on. After that the image is steady. It should not be required that the user have to toggle it on and off.
